Clinique ID Custom-Blend Hydrator

I’m baaaaack! It’s been a crazy few months & I really needed the time to rest, reset and recharge my batteries before jumping back in. I started a new job, am getting new floors in my condo, and life is just generally very busy! That said, I have a brand new product review for y’all!

Enter the Clinique iD Custom-Blend Hydrator!

This product is such a fantastic idea. It’s perfect for creating the custom moisturizer that your skin wants and needs. Honestly, I was suckered in by the cute, bright coloured packaging, but I think the idea is really unique.

Clinique iD Custom-Blend Hydrator

First, you pick a base! There are three to choose from & Clinique is calling this step “Hydrate”. The Dramatically Different Moisturizing Lotion+, Dramatically Different Oil-Control Gel, and the Dramatically Different Hydrating Jelly. I feel like I used the OG formula (Dramatically Different Moisturizing Lotion+) back in high school, and it was not my jam, and my skin doesn’t need the Oil Control, so I opted for the Hydrating Jelly. It’s clear and looked super lightweight, and promised 24-hour hydration repair + pollution protection; what more could you ask for?

Secondly, you pick your cartridge concentrate. Or as Clinique calls it “Treat” (as in what treatment your skin needs, but I guess it’s a treat FOR your face too!). There are 5 to choose from: Irritation Calm & Comfort (Green), Pores & Uneven Texture (Blue), Uneven Skin Tone (White), Fatigue/Energize (Orange), and Lines & Wrinkles (Purple). I felt like this would be a great morning moisturizer for me, and I have multiple night creams, serums, etc in my bathroom, so I chose the Orange cartridge to give me some morning pep in my step!

As I said before, this product won me over with the unique packaging and bright colours. I reallllly wanted to like it. But unfortunately it doesn’t do much for me. I feel like it’s hydrating, but not overly. I have primers that I actually feel are more hydrating (shoutout to my ride or die Smashbox Photo Finish Primerizer). Also, I felt like this could be more invigorating for something that’s bright orange and marketed to energize your skin. Perhaps a fresh citrus scent or something? It’s scentless, by the way. I’ve been using this for about 3 months in the morning, and I wouldn’t say it does much for my skin, or help prep for makeup.

Clinique iD Custom-Blend Hydrator

All in all, would I recommend this product? Sadly my answer is no. I would be interested in trying another combination of the base + cartridge, maybe the Dramatically Different Moisturizing Lotion+ alongside the Lines & Wrinkles. But I won’t be rushing out to make the purchase!

The Clinique iD Custom-Blend Hydrator retails for $47/Cdn at Sephora, and

I’m just winging it. My life, my eyeliner, everything!
