I am so excited to review this mascara!!! I saw it on Instagram about a month ago, and right away, the baby pink packaging had me thinking of my beloved Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara. Could something ever rival it? Well… I had to get my hands on the brand new L’Oreal Voluminous Lash Paradise Mascara in order to find out!
The L’Oreal Voluminous Lash Paradise mascara launched at the very end of May, and I could not wait to test it out. I was seeing many people across YouTube and Instagram speculating that it would be a great dupe for the Too Faced mascara, and I wanted to test it out myself. I have gone through about 3 tubes of the Too Faced mascara, and with it retailing for $30/Cdn, I was ready to get back to a drugstore priced mascara. The L’Oreal mascara retails for around $15/Cdn, but I’m sure it will go on sale at times for cheaper.
Not only is the pink packaging similar, these mascaras have similar looking brushes. I took a look at both product descriptions, and it’s funny how they do not sound like similar mascaras. Too Faced describes their brush as an hour glass shape with extra stiff bristles that will separate, coat and curl, while L’Oreal describes theirs as soft and wavy, that lengthens and creates feathery lashes. Both mascaras promise mega volume. It’s interesting to me that neither of these sound like similar descriptions, yet if you look at the brush up close, it’s literally the exact same thing!!
Putting it to the test! I tested one eye Too Faced, and one eye L’Oreal on three separate occasions to really see the results. I also took pictures in between layers. The Too Faced looks the best in layer one, but layers 2 and 3 are quite comparable in my opinion. Layer 3 for Too Faced actually appears quite chunky, while L’Oreal is more defined, however length and volume is very comparable. The biggest difference to me? The L’Oreal mascara lasts longer during the day. Lately I had been noticing with the Too Faced that when I’d get home from work and look in the elevator mirror, that my mascara has worn off and looked limp. I was even contemplating trying a waterproof mascara as I hear they help keep a curl. But thankfully, the L’Oreal version lasts longer throughout the day, and still looked great after work!
These mascaras are very similar, but the biggest difference is that the L’Oreal mascara is literally half the price, so in my books, that equals a winner! I can get the same quality of volume and length at a drugstore price, and my lashes will look better for longer. I am SO happy that L’Oreal came out with this mascara to rival Too Faced. I am converted!
Have you tried the L’Oreal Lash Paradise yet?
