Put Your Best Face Forward!

Lately I’ve been getting a ton of questions about my foundation routine, which has honestly been extremely flattering. I keep saying the same thing, “Oh, it’s just Estée Lauder Double Wear foundation!” And truth be told, it really is the Estée Lauder foundation, but I also realized it’s a combination of things that I really like together that make my skin look flawless.

I came across the Estée Lauder Double Wear foundation about a year and a half ago. I noticed that by 3pm my chin was a different colour than the rest of my face and quickly realized I sit in meetings with my hand on my chin. I went into Sephora ready to try something new (after being a devoted Mac Pro Longwear lover for years), and explained that I wanted something matte & would not budge from my face. I walked out with a bottle of Estée Lauder Double Wear and have never turned back. The foundation promises 15 hours of wear through humidity and activity, which I can honestly say lives up to those expectations. I have touched my face through countless meetings, cried through a funeral, walked in the rain and even worked out; it will not budge! I love this foundation so much and have recommended it to many friends who have also enjoyed! You can pick up a bottle of Estée Lauder Double Wear foundation from Sephora, the Bay or some Shoppers Drug Marts (1 fl.oz/30 mL for $45/Cdn). I’m in the shade 3W1 Tawny and I apply it with my IT Cosmetics Heavenly Luxe Flat Top Buffing Foundation Brush.

But before any of that goes down, you have to prep your face. I have been really neglecting moisturizing lately – I know, it’s bad, but when a patch of eczema wouldn’t go away for 6 weeks I realized I’m in need of some moisture back in my skin. I’m back on the Olay Complete All Day Moisturizer, an oldie but a goodie. It’s great for sensitive skin and it includes an SPF 15. I picked this bottle up at Shoppers Drug Mart (120mL for $14/Cdn).

I was a little hesitant to try the next product out, but I am secretly enjoying it. The Smashbox Photo Finish Primer Water has been raved about on every beauty blog, YouTube channel and Instagram account for the past few months, and I realized I had to see what the fuss was about. I love that Smashbox makes the travel size packaging so you can test out the product for about half the price. I grabbed this little guy from Sephora (1 fl.oz/30 mL for $15/Cdn) and I really enjoy that you simply spray it on. I have to say, it smells a little like pencil shavings or something weird like that, but otherwise I’m really digging it. It claims to create a sheer canvas for makeup application, wake up your skin and restore moisture, all of which I think it totally does. It makes your skin feel a bit tacky and then the makeup sticks to it, locking it in all day. I am really enjoying this product and will probably pick up another when I’m out!

After I apply my foundation, I apply the Urban Decay Naked Skin Weightless Complete Coverage Concealer (that was a mouthful!). This concealer is truly amazing and I will definitely be repurchasing when I’m done. It is lightweight, brightens your under eyes and blends out nicely, which I like to do with a damp sponge. I found this cute little purple guy at Sephora and it fits perfectly in the inner corners. I am in the shade Medium-Light Neutral (0.16 fl.oz/5mL for $35/Cdn). I then set with a powder and my Real Techniques Setting Brush. My favourite setting powers at the moment are Mac Pro Shaping Powder in Emphasize or Anastasia Beverly Hills Contour Powder in Banana, these brighten and make sure your under eyes don’t crease!

Lastly, another random product I’ve been enjoying lately is the Rimmel Stay Matte Long Lasting Pressed Powder in 001 Transparent. This was around $6/Cdn at Shoppers Drug Mart, not all products have to be high end! This will not make your skin look cakey, it adds just a nice finishing layer to your foundation, and is the final step in ensuring your makeup will stay in place all day long!

And there you have it, my daily face routine. I do believe the Estée Lauder foundation is the key to success, but we all need a little help once in awhile, and these products work together to make me feel fabulous all day long!

I’m just winging it. My life, my eyeliner, everything!
