Tarte Clay Play Face Shaping Palette

When I first saw the Tarte Clay Play Face Shaping Palette, I wanted it..badly. I thought it was the perfect concept. An all matte palette with various neutral shades, a shadow for everything. Then I saw the price ($64/Cdn), and was like “girl, you have a bunch of contour kits, matte bronzers, eye shadow palettes, you don’t need this”. So, I talked myself out of it, and let it go. Fast forward 6 months, and the Tarte Clay Play Face Shaping Palette is on sale for $28 for Black Friday. Boom, into the cart and it was delivered within 4 days. What really drew me to this palette was the idea that I could contour, fill in my brows, do a full eyeshadow look, and be able to use on myself and friends.

The Tarte Clay Play Face Shaping Palette contains 12 powders. 3 are dedicated to contouring (Terracotta, Desert, Timber), but Desert is too grey for me, and Timber is too dark for me – aka, they are now perfect eyeshadows (that will probably last forever, considering the pan size). Terracotta is a perfect contour shade for me, and I’ve been using it nonstop! Another two shades I really love are Solstice and Sand, they’re really great for setting concealer/undereyes as well as your base shade for starting an eyeshadow look. Dunes is a flawless eyebrow shade for me, and Onyx makes one hell of a smoky eyeliner shade! As for the rest of the shades, Journey, Stone, Smoke, Ember and Instinct, well, they are just amazing eyeshadows. All of these shades are perfect for transition shades or deepening up an eye look. They are all very blendable powders, and last all day on my skin!

I received my order right before my sister and I travelled to NYC, and figured this was the perfect test for my new palette. Would it be good enough to travel with? While it is quite a large palette, I gotta say, it was perfect for a weekend getaway. What made it even better? There is such a variety of shades, that my sister could borrow it and be happy to try a new palette as well!  We were so surprised at how pigmented the Tarte Clay Play Face Shaping Palette is, the slightest tap of your brush and you’re loaded with product!

Today I’m wearing Dunes in my brows, Journey & Timber in my crease, Terracotta as my all over bronzer + contour, Solstice on my undereyes and lid, and Onyx as my liner.

Apparently, this palette is now discontinued, which is a huge bummer for anyone looking for it (sorry!), but they just launched a second version, that includes more shimmery shades as well as matte. Although the Tarte Clay Play Face Shaping Palette is sold out, I would highly recommend any of Tarte’s shadows (or products for that matter!). I’ve been a huge Tarte fan for years, and really love their makeup. What is your favourite palette you own?

I’m just winging it. My life, my eyeliner, everything!
