Happy Mother’s Day to all the beautiful mommy’s out there! I was so happy to spend a bright, sunny Saturday with mama yesterday and spoil her like she does for us every other day of the year! We took her to the (somewhat) new Bite Beauty Lip Lab on Queen West to make customized lipsticks!
The Bite Beauty store on Queen Street West opened this past fall, and gives you the unique experience of creating your own personalized lipstick with the help of one of their Artists! We were paired with Austin, who brought us over sparkling wine ($7/each) and some complimentary macarons!
Austin started by giving us the Whipped Cherry Lip Scrub and the Agave Lip Mask to prep our lips, and then we got down to business. He asked us what formulas we preferred, what kind of colour we were looking for, and then he started pulling some colours he felt would be complimentary to our look and skintone.
Austin put our names on clear plastic sheets and started mixing colours for us. We all wanted a bright coral colour, but I wanted a glossy finish, and my mom & sister were interested in the satin finish. He mixed up about 6 different shades for us, and we got to try them all on before choosing our final colour. My sister and I picked the same coral shade, but different finishes, and my mom picked a bit more of a pinker colour! He then mixed up the colour, shade, and scent in a plastic cup and stuck it in a little paint mixer (pictured above on the right!). There was about 10 scents to choose from, I picked coconut lime, but there was mint, lavender, vanilla, cherry, and many more!
Once the lipsticks were melted down in the mixer, he poured the shades into a mold, and let them sit in the cold for about 15 minutes! When the lipsticks had fully hardened, Austin split the mold in half, and inserted the lipstick into the tubes! We were so excited with our final lipsticks, and it was such a fun and interesting thing to experience.
The store itself was gorgeous. All of their lipstick shades were on display, along with a peek into their lab in the back. It was sleek, yet fun, the perfect place for a girly afternoon!
Because it was Mother’s Day they were doing an extra promotion where you received a free mini lipstick, and you got to put the tube on the lipstick and pull it out yourself! The mini lipstick is a really pretty pink colour, which I will definitely be wearing!
We had such a great time with Austin, and really enjoyed learning about how lipstick is made. It was a unique experience, which I highly recommend! It was a bit on the expensive side, but the experience truly is worth it. It’s $55 for 1 lipstick, or 2 for $80. It was the perfect gift to take my mom out for Mothers Day, and I think it would make an awesome gift for any birthday girl, bride to be, or just to treat yourself to something new!
